Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has officially announced that the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will be released in the fall of 2025.
In a Q4 2024 earnings call on May 16, Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed the narrowed release window, shifting from the broader Fiscal Year 2025 to the Fall of Calendar Year 2025. Zelnick stated, “As we enter Fiscal 2025 with positive momentum, we expect to deliver Net Bookings of $5.55 to $5.65 billion. Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games’ previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto VI. We are highly confident that Rockstar Games will deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience, and our expectations for the commercial impact of the title continue to increase.”
Rockstar Games teased fans with the first trailer for GTA 6 in December 2023 on its official YouTube channel, announcing its release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025. The trailer, launched to mark Rockstar Games’ 25th anniversary, quickly became a YouTube sensation. It amassed 93 million views in just 24 hours, making it the third-most viral video on the platform and the most-liked game trailer with 8.9 million likes.
The GTA 6 trailer showcases several counties in the fictional State of Leonida, prominently featuring Vice-Dale County, home to the iconic neon-lit streets of Vice City, complete with picturesque sunsets, beaches, and yachts. The game will introduce Lucia, the franchise’s first playable female protagonist. The trailer depicts Lucia starting in prison and later committing crimes alongside her unnamed male accomplice.
Since its 2013 release, GTA 5 has sold over 200 million copies globally, making it the second best-selling game of all time, surpassed only by Minecraft, which has sold over 300 million copies worldwide.
